Muscat: The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP) said that the number of exhibitions held during the year 2022 in all governorates of the Sultanate of Oman was more than 200.
The ministry called on business owners, companies, and institutions operating in the exhibitions sector to correct their statuses by the end of March 2023, in line with Ministerial Resolution 527/2022.
New regulations were made to pace with the current conditions and help event management companies to hold more exhibitions and conferences in the Sultanate of Oman.
The regulation will contribute to strengthening partnerships between the public and private sectors to attract investments in line with the objectives of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion.
The regulation clarified the mechanism for granting a permit to hold consumer exhibitions through bidding by the competent authority. The regulation emphasised that its provisions do not apply to exhibitions of paintings, photography, and cultural exhibitions held by universities, colleges, schools, and exhibitions selling used books organised for charitable purposes, provided that a licence is obtained from the competent authority. The decision introduces new categories of virtual exhibitions, exhibitions of products from industries based in the GCC, and specialised exhibitions.
The decision stipulates conditions for licenses to organise exhibitions, including minimum staff strength of two employees, one of who must be an Omani administrative manager.The Omani employee should also be registered with the Public Authority for Social Insurance (PASI). The decision also stipulates that the licence holder must have fixed headquarters, and a bank account, and must pay the prescribed fees to the ministry.
