BERLIN: Italy's Lisa Vittozzi secured the individual discipline title in this season's biathlon World Cup after a second place finish in Östersund, Sweden.

Compatriot Dorothea Wierer won the 15-kilometre trek and was 25.5seconds ahead of Vittozzi, who also shot clean on her way to her second small crystal globe after individual success in 2019.

Germany's Denise Herrmann-Wick was third as the penultimate meet of the season began.

France's Julia Simon, who leads the overall women's standings, was fourth.

Norway's biathlon superstar Johannes Thingnes Bö has already won the men's overall World Cup for a fourth time after his only rival and team-mate Sturla Holm Laegreid was ruled out of Thursday's men's individual race in Östersund with coronavirus - just like Bö. -- dpa
