Women in focus at UN annual sessions in New York

MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman is joining the international community at the meetings of the 67th annual session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women. The session takes place at the UN headquarters in New York, from March 6-17.


Oman is represented at the meeting by Dr Mohammed bin Awadh al Hassan, Permanent Representative of the Sultanate of Oman to the United Nations in New York, and officials from the Ministry of Social Development.


The current session reviews the progress made by member states in enhancing the status of women, innovation, technological transition, education in the digital age and the best practices for bridging the digital gender gap. It focuses on empowering women in all aspects of life.


Members of the Omani delegation will take part in some activities held on the sidelines of the session.


The gathering at the UN session will listen to a recorded speech by Dr Laila bint Ahmed al Najar, Minister of Social Development. The speech will outline the efforts made by the government of Oman on enhancing the status of women and ensuring their access to all rights cited in the laws approved by the government.
