Meeting reviews means of enhancing cooperation between Oman, WIPO

Muscat: Dr Saleh Said Masn, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion for Commerce and Industry met here on Monday with Daren Tang, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).


During the meeting, the two sides discussed a spectrum of topics and exchanged views on various matters related to WIPO’s tasks. They also reviewed means of enhancing cooperation between Oman and WIPO.


The two sides touched on Oman’s benefitting from the system of geographical indication (GI) in protecting some Omani products, such as frankincense.


The meeting also discussed supporting the national office for intellectual property. It also underscored the importance of registering geographical indications internationally.


Daren Tang, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) also reviewed WIPO’s support for startups in Oman in the field of intellectual property.


Moreover, the meeting highlighted various economic aspects that support implementing Oman Vision 2040.
