Indian feature film shooting progressing in Oman

MUSCAT: The landscape of the Sultanate of Oman will be the backdrop of many films post Covid-19, thanks to the highly supportive guidelines and cost-effectiveness, besides a perfect combination of landscapes that the country has to offer.


The latest in the series is the full-length feature film, 'Agent', a multi-lingual Indian film originally made in Telugu and being shot in the country for which the desert and sands of Oman and downtown Ruwi are featured as characters.



"Oman is a country that has immense visual possibilities. This is the country that has a rare combination of deserts, seas and rugged mountains, which offer a wonderful treat to the eyes," said Surender Reddy, Director of 'Agent' movie.


'Agent' is a spy action thriller film directed and written by Vakkantham Vamsi and stars Mammootty, Akhil Akkineni, Sakshi Vaidya, Dino Morea And Vikramjeet Virk and many junior artists set in the Hungarian capital, Budapest.


"We are done with most of the production, and in the Sultanate of Oman, we are shooting a crucial action sequence involving a series of car racing and other spine-chilling scenes," he added.


Besides Akshay Kumar's 'Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobaara', several English and Indian films besides regional Arabic movies have been shot in the country.


"Rastha", another Indian movie made in Malayalam, just got packed up last week and is scaled to release next month while local film-makers make several short films and feature films.


"More films will be made in the country as several companies have shown interest in benefiting from the perks offered by the government authorities," Renee Johnson, one who facilitates film-making in the country," he said.


The Ministry of Tourism has joined forces with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, the Ministry of Information and Omran to promote the country as an ideal location for film and TV productions as it provides opportunities for investment in this field, especially to SMEs.


Last year, the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) signed an agreement with Action Films Production Company and Destinations Rising Company to support and promote the country as an attractive destination for film-making.
