Muscat: Represented by the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA), the Sultanate of Oman will host the activities of the “Arab Consumer Protection Week”, which will be held from March 8-14, 2023. The event highlights various issues of interest to the Arab consumer.

This was stated during a press conference organized by the CPA in Muscat on Sunday.

The phrase "small consumer" has been used to reflect the theme of this year’s event, notably to portray the significance of this segment of consumers who constitute an integral part of the consumer community and deserve due exposure.

The engagement of small consumers will reflect positively in their behaviour and empower them to exercise their rights and better perform their duties.

The CPA pointed out that an Arab forum titled "Small Consumer and Sustainable Consumption" will be held on March 8 in conjunction with the Arab Consumer Protection Week. The forum will be held under the auspices of Sayyid Mohammed Sultan al Busaidi, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council.

The forum aims to identify legal realities pertaining to small consumers and the role of legislative systems in providing protection for this segment against traditional and electronic commercial fraud.

The forum also aims at securing sustainable consumption, revealing the role of the media and its impact in raising the awareness about small consumer issues in the Arab world and benefiting from local and international experiences in developing consumer protection services for this segment.

The CPA also launched an awareness campaign titled "For a Conscious Generation of Consumers". The campaign aims to inculcate safe consumer culture among young people and enables young consumers to become aware of their rights and duties. It also consolidates the role of civil society and educational institutions in spreading public awareness about safe consumer culture.
