Omani Search and Rescue Team returns from Türkiye

Muscat: Members of the Omani Search and Rescue Team of the Civil Defence and Ambulances Authority (CDAA) who were engaged in the rescue and rehabilitation operations in the Republic of Türkiye in the aftermath of the massive earthquakes that claimed nearly 45,000 lives, returned home on Wednesday night, according to CDAA.


The NSRT returned after carrying out extensive, strenuous and humanitarian efforts over a period of fifteen days, and after representing in search and rescue operations, first aid, and assistance to those affected by the quake on February 6, 2023.


"The participating NSRTforce, members OF the CDAA, after extensive search and rescue operations and rehabilitation at the quake hit areas. The team, based on its humanitarian duty, arrived in Türkiye on Feb 8, after the series of quakes shook the Republic and the neighbouring Syria," a CDAA spokesperson told the Observer.


The NSRT brigades arrived in Hatay Governorate in southern Turkey after fulfilling necessary formalities and set up the team camp.


Since then, the team has been actively involved in the rescue operations in coordination with the Turkiye authorities and were part of many miraculous retrieval of people stuck inside the rubbles.


Hekimoğlu, Turkish Ambassador to the Sultanate, welcomed the Oman National Search and Rescue Team, which carried out search and rescue efforts in Hatay after the earthquake disaster in our country, on their arrival to the country and expressed his gratitude for their assistance.


Additionally, following the Royal Orders, the Sultanate of Oman has been operating an air bridge to transport relief and medical supplies to the affected Syrian and Turkish regions.


A Rousing welcome was accorded by the Turkiye diplomatic mission in the Sultanate of Oman at the airport which was attended by the respective ambassadors with diplomats and citizens who will receive the NSRT members from airport.
