Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman and India are working to significantly expand the scope of cooperation in various fields, according to Amit Narang, Indian Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman.

Speaking to journalists recently on the sidelines of an Oman-India business forum, Narang said Omanis are eligible to travel to India on an e-visa, the application for which is a “very easy process”. It can be obtained within 48 hours by applying online for a fee of RO 16 only and is valid for a full year, he noted.

Around 56,565 Omanis travelled to India in 2022, he said, citing official statistics.

Commenting on the bilateral relationship, the ambassador said the two countries are prioritising economic and trade ties, with bilateral trade having shown strong growth in recent years.

He explained that the strategic priorities in Oman Vision 2040 closely align with the well-known strengths of the Indian economy and therefore the two countries can enhance cooperation in many sectors including renewable energy, defence, maritime security, metals and mining, manufacturing, aerospace and logistics.
