Muscat: HH Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers on Tuesday received Juan Carlos Salazar, Secretary General of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
The ICAO Secretary General and his accompanying delegation, currently visiting the Sultanate of Oman to attend the 2nd Civil Aviation Legal Advisers Forum (CALAF/2) held in Muscat during February 21-23, 2023.
After welcoming the guest and his accompanying delegation, HH Sayyid Fahd affirmed that establishing latest airports considered among the major achievements made by the Sultanate of Oman as they constitute a linking point and openness to the world.
He pointed out that the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has placed the project on expansion of airspace among the top priority projects to be implemented due to its positive returns. CAA in coordination with the departments concerned in the country has begun taking approvals as this project is subject to the ICAO approval on airspace sovereignty according to the Chicago Convention.
HH Sayyid Fahd underscored the importance of Oman’s host of the 2nd Civil Aviation Legal Advisers Forum (CALAF/2) to explore the best ways of supporting air transport. He also commended the ICAO role in ensuring security and safety of passengers and global aviation traffic.
On his turn, the ICAO Secretary General expressed his appreciation and that of his accompanying delegation of Oman’s comprehensive renaissance covering many fields. They also lauded Oman’s international airports and ports established as per the latest technologies and global standards. The ICAO Secretary General pointed out that the host and good preparation of the forum would contribute in reaching many positive outcomes that serve the international air transport traffic.
The meeting was attended by Eng Said bin Hamoud al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, Eng Nayef bin Ali al Abri, CAA Chairman and Mohammed bin Mansoor al Ruqaishi, Oman’s Permanent Representative to the ICAO.
