MUSCAT: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik received President Dr Bashar Al Assad of the Syrian Arab Republic, who paid a working visit to the Sultanate of Oman on Monday. His Majesty the Sultan led the welcoming party for the guest.


When the jet touched ground at the Royal Airport, His Majesty the Sultan met the guest at the foot of the ramp, welcoming him and wishing him and the official delegation a pleasant stay in Oman.


The Syrian President was also received by HH Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs, Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal al Busaidy, Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court, Gen Sultan bin Mohammed al Numani, Minister of the Royal Office, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister, Sultan bin Salim al Habsi, Minister of Finance, Dr Hamad bin Said al Aufi, Head of the Private Office, Dr Madeeha bint Ahmed al Shaibaniyah, Minister of Education, Abdulsalam bin Mohammed al Murshidi, Chairman of Oman Investment Authority (OIA), Sayyid Turki bin Mahmoud al Busaidy, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Syrian Arab Republic, and Idris Maya, Ambassador of the Syrian Arab Republic to the Sultanate of Oman.His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and President Dr Bashar Al Assad of the Syrian Arab Republic, held an official session of talks at Al Barakah Palace. At the outset of the session, His Majesty the Sultan renewed his sympathy and condolences to the guest and the Syrian brotherly people on victims of the devastating earthquake that hit Syrian and the Republic of Türkiye.


His Majesty affirmed that the Sultanate of Oman continues support for its brethren to overcome implications of this natural disaster. On his turn, the Syrian President expressed his utmost thanks to His Majesty the Sultan, the government and the Omani people for their solidarity and stand with the Syrian Arab Republic. He also expressed his appreciation of the Omani relief efforts that contributed in alleviating impacts of the earthquake.


During the session, His Majesty the Sultan and the Syrian President reviewed the march of the bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries and fields of the joint cooperation. The two leaders also exchanged viewpoints on the regional and international arenas, as well as the endeavours to consolidate pillars of security and stability in the region and the world. The session was also attended from the Syrian side by Dr Faisal Mekdad, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Mansour Fadlallah Azzam, Minister of Presidential Affairs, Dr Samer Al Khalil, Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Luna Al Shibl, Special Presidential Adviser, and Idris Maya, Ambassador of the Syrian Arab Republic to the Sultanate of Oman. After that, His Majesty the Sultan and the Syrian President held a closed-door session. President Dr Bashar Al Assad of the Syrian Arab Republic and his accompanying delegation left here earlier this evening after concluding his working visit to the Sultanate of Oman. The guest was seen off at the Royal Airport by HH Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs and some officials. During the visit, the Syrian President was accompanied by an official delegation comprising Dr Faisal Mekdad, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Mansour Fadlallah Azzam, Minister of Presidential Affairs, Dr Samer Al Khalil, Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Luna Al Shibl, Special Presidential Adviser and Idris Maya, Ambassador of the Syrian Arab Republic to the Sultanate of Oman. — ONA
