Muscat: The Ministry of Education, represented by the Department of Innovation and Scientific Olympiad, is implementing a three-day training workshop for the STEM Oman programme at the Wyndham Garden Muscat. The workshop is targeting 12 teachers from 6 schools as part of the plan to expand the application of the programme in all governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, with the support of the private sector.
The STEM Oman programme is a global educational system that aims to combine the four basic education subjects, mathematics, engineering, science and technology, and link and mix them in an integrated manner in creative ways based on scientific experiments to transform ideas into practical applications that focus on linking education to daily life through developing creative and critical thinking skills among students. It also aims to the creation of a generation capable of actively participating in sustainable development in society and entering the world of knowledge-based economy in the fields of science, mathematics, engineering, and technology.
The preparation process includes providing halls equipped with the tools necessary to implement the programme, including furniture, experimental tools, electronic devices, and guides for scientific activities, in addition to practical and theoretical training on implementing the programme. Some schools in the Sultanate of Oman began implementing the programme in 2017, as it witnesses a continuous expansion in the number of schools implementing the programme on a phased basis, with the support of private sector institutions, bringing the number by the year 2025 to 100 public schools distributed in all governorates.
It is worth noting that the STEM Oman programme won the Arab Excellence Award as the best implemented government programme to support the education sector in the Arab world, at the awards ceremony that was held in Cairo last January.
