The fifteenth international karate training course, organised by the Karate Academy in the Sultanate of Oman in cooperation with the Nizwa Club, concluded recently.

The course was held from February 9 to 13 under the supervision of the Japanese Karate Federation expert, Naka Tatsui. The participants -- 150 coaches and players -- were from Oman, the Arab region, Asia, and Europe.

The course included a four-and-a-half-hour training programme divided into three sessions.

The Japanese expert explained the mistakes some people make and the result of not adhering to the correct form and precise technique by not steadfastness, and not dispersing strength. He also explained the body parts that should be focused while performing specific movements.

The black belt tests took place on the morning of the fourth day of the championship activities. Coach Matar bin Khalfan al Kindi won the black belt (5th Dan), coach Khalid bin Juma al Jabri got the black belt (3rd Dan), and coach Moosa bin Obaid al Atabi got the black belt (3rd Dan).

Coach Mohammad bin Suleiman al Sabti also received black belt (2nd Dan), while coach Muhanna bin Hamad al Shaqsi and player Hassan bin Ali al Thuhili won black belt (2nd Dan). Al Thuhili also obtained a training licence to be the youngest coach in the academy. The player, Ahmed bin Mohammed al Kahlawi, also received the black belt (2nd Dan) while the player, Sarah al Kiyumi, won black belt (1st Dan).

They completed the prescribed training period to get the Dan degree according to the Japanese Federation system. They also underwent a one-year training course under the supervision of the head coach of the Karate Academy, Said bin Hamad al Hashemi.

The course included a tourism programme for participants outside the Sultanate of Oman. They visited Nizwa Market, Nizwa Castle, and took tours of some neighbourhoods and tourist places.
