Abu Dhabi: Cooperation 3, the joint military training exercise of Oman and the UAE, concluded in Abu Dhabi on Thursday. The drill is part of the cooperation, coordination and exchange of expertise between the armed forces of Oman and the UAE.
The exercise is being held under the framework of joint Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) action and aims to improve the military capacities of its participants.
The 11-day drill saw the participation of a unit from Muscat Regiment, Infantry Bridge (23) of the Royal Army of Oman (RAO), and its support divisions, as well as aircraft from the Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO) and vessels from the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO).
They joined military units from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Armed Forces.
The exercise is being organised within the context of an annual training programme conducted by the Sultan’s Armed Forces (SAF) - represented by the RAO, the RAFO and the RNO - in cooperation with Arab and friendly countries. The annual training programmes form part of plans espoused by the SAF to maintain the high levels of performance and combat competence of SAF personnel.
The exercise was concluded by a simulation of ground attack by the Omani and Emirati ground forces, with the support of helicopters, ships and naval boats, to destroy the targets, by cutting off the sea supply lines of the supposed hostile forces. The practical demonstration of the exercise with live ammunition was carried out in the city built in the combat training centre in Al Hamra Camp of the United Arab Emirates.
The closing ceremony of the exercise was attended by Major General Said bin Rashid al Shehhi, Commander of the UAE Land Forces, senior officers of the Sultan's Armed Forces and the UAE Armed Forces. — ONA
