Muscat: Oman Under-20 football team will clash again with Qatar team on Thursday in Doha city at Aspire (4) zone in a repeat warm-up match after the both teams met on Monday.

Hosts Qatar thrashed Oman in the opening friendly by 6-1. The massive defeat was a warning for the coaching staff of the Oman national team ahead of their crucial assignment in the AFC Asian U20 Championship which will start from March 1.

The duplicated fixture on Thursday will serve as a good opportunity for the team to work on addressing the weak areas and the mistakes that cost the team a huge loss.

It is expected that the head coach of the national team, David Gordo, might enter today’s encounter with a different style that will ensure Oman’s comeback.

Thursday’s warm-up game is the penultimate match before the start of the major Asian event, while the concluding and high-quality international friendly match will be against the hosts of Asian Championship, Uzbekistan on February 21.

The team will head off to Tashkent on Sunday for an abroad camp with a duration of eight days. The majority of the announced squad by Spanish Coach Gordo took part in the opening Qatar match including 21 out of 23 players. The match provided a clear picture for the coaching staff on the readiness of each player for the Asian test.

Oman will compete in Group C at the AFC Asian U20 tournament alongside South Korea, Tajikistan and Jordan while Qatar are grouped in a challenging Group B besides Iran, Australia and Vietnam. The top four teams in the Asian tournament will secure their spots in the Fifa U20 World Cup 2023 which will be hosted in Indonesia from May 20 to June 11.
