Helping small businesses become resilient is key

A number of small enterprises were adversely impacted over the past period as a result of pandemic-induced closures, suffering declining sales and the effects of the downturn in general. This was due to several other reasons, including the decline in global oil prices and the business’s exposure to supply chain problems.

Today, many of these young entrepreneurs are suffering because of the challenges and difficulties they went through, leading to an increase in their commercial problems, and their debts to banking and financial institutions.

Everyone realizes that the prospect of failure is an inherent business risk, whether involving a large or small and medium project, but what distinguishes the work of a young entrepreneur is that their small business hasn’t perhaps benefited from in-depth feasibility studies, but rather the efforts of the owners to keep learning and doing their best.

Failure sometimes is part of the learning process and requires corrective steps. Small business owners should not to lose faith in the projects, but try to take the right decisions, use suitable technologies and stay abreast of innovations in their field. It is very important for entrepreneurs to continue their scientific studies, in order to learn about new ideas in the business that they do, and to communicate with their customers to benefit from their feedback as well. They should study new projects to move forward, especially if they are related to their field of work.

In anticipation of difficulties in running their projects, it is important that the owners plan alternative options to tackle any challenges that may crop up. They need to try to understand how their competitors operate and keep up with new business trends in their line of work.

It is also important for the entrepreneur to set aside resources that they can fall back on in the event of a financial shock, and focus on priorities so that he can control expenses and benefit from his financial and marketing plans. The better established ones should advise their fellow entrepreneurs to go public, improve the efficiency of product or service delivery, and enhance customer acceptability of their products and services. This is what makes these institutions sustainable.

Continuous perseverance is very important for the owners of these institutions despite the circumstances that they may go through, with the need to learn more quickly in order to keep pace with developments, and to focus on continuous investment in themselves and their workers in order to build skills that can carry out their duties and work through one team that manages these institutions, in addition to instilling ambition in its members so that they are ready to work in all environments.
