5,642 camels to participate in 74 races at Al Bashayer Festival

MUSCAT: As many as 5,642 camels will participate in 74 races as part of the annual Al Bashayer Festival for Arab Camel


Races, in its sixth edition, at Al Bashayer Camel Racetrack.


The race in the Wilayat of Adam in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, will start on Monday and will last for six days. The camel owners and their followers from Oman and GCC countries are expected to feature in the competition.


The organising committees of the Department of Al Bashayer Square for Arabian Camels affiliated with the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs, Personal Representative of His Majesty the Sultan have completed all preparations for this festival.


The festival will include morning and evening rounds. The organising committee will present 20 cars and cash prizes allocated to the winners.



On the first day, 24 runs will be held for the category of Al Hajaiz, for a distance of 4 km. For the second day, it will be for the category of Al Laqaya, for a distance of 5 km, and 20 runs are allocated for it. The third day is devoted to the Al Yathaa category and includes 15 runs for a distance of 6 km. The fourth day’s runs, which are 11 rounds, were devoted to the category of Al Hawl , Al Thanaya, and long-distance running, in addition to the endurance run for a distance of 12 km. The final day, which is Saturday, includes 4 runs of Al Hawl and Al Thanaya, for a


distance of 8 km.


During the festival period, accompanying events will be held. That will include various pillars with the participation of governmental, private, and civil agencies, which are a corner for the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority, a corner for arts, a Bedouin village corner, a children’s village corner, a theater corner for singing and poetry evenings, the Zaffin Al Bashir competition, a traditional weapon shooting competition, and the festival’s tourist convoy.


The annual Al Bashayer Camel Festival will be broadcasted by Oman Sports Channel on a daily basis during the course of the race in two periods, morning and evening, in addition to a daily analytical studio through the 'Al Manasa' programme.
