Qurayat defeat Al Salam to lift second division volleyball title

Qurayat club defeated Al Salam 3-2 in the final clash to lift Oman volleyball second division league 2022-23 title on Wednesday night.


In a thrilling final at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher, Mubarak al Shibli and his team-mates delivered a solid show to lead Qurayat for a new accomplishment in volleyball and spoiled Al Salam’s dreams for a new title.


Salalah club won the third place as they edged neighbours Mirbat 3-0 in the third and fourth place play-off.


In the final, the scoreline ended at 26-24, 21-25, 27-25, 16-25 and 15-8. Both teams entered the match strongly seeking the title. Qurayat led in the first set to claim it 26-24.


Opponents Al Salam made a strong comeback in the second set as they won the set by 25-21. Qurayat, who were chasing for a new achievement in volleyball, returned back to lead the match again in the third set to win it 27-25. Al Salam players brought the match level again as they won the fourth set 25-16.


In the deciding set, the Muscat-based team players were more focused and reduced their mistakes to clinch the set and title at 15-8.


Qurayat are coached by national head coach Asaad al Battashi.


Hisham bin Juma al Sinani, General Manager of Sports Development and Welfare at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, in presence of Oman Volleyball Association (OVA) officials presided over the concluding ceremony. The chief guest awarded the medals and shield to the top winners.


On the other hand, the finals of the Oman volleyball first division league 2022-23 is underway. Seeb took on Suhar while Oman club met Al Bashayer on Thursday.
