In Veterans Doubles final, unseeded Dr Simon Joseph and Shajan Varghese continued their excellent team work and confidence to attain victory over seeded Nadeem and Mohd Haroos at the Purshottam Kanji Exchange – sponsored annual badminton tournament organised by the Indian Social Club Oman. A brilliant combination of team-work and never say die attitude helped winning team to surpass the threat of opponents who snatched first game despite trailing at 7-11 on mid-way. In the second set, losing side took command accumulating a sizeable lead of 11-5, at where the entire plot reversed and the winning duo bounce backed into the game with consecutive four service points to take the lead as 12-11. From then the winning pair didn’t looked back and leveled the scores 1-1. In the decider, a close one yet again, both teams played carefully and points were neck-and-neck till 12 and while closing in, the Simon and Shajan duo triggered past the opponents reeling in final points with their controlled aggression and overwhelming support of the crowd. The final scores are 17-21; 21-18 and 21-15.
In Mixed doubles final Himesh Haridas and Srinidhi V are in their dazzling form to claim mixed doubles title defeating Indonesian star player Riyadi and Nimitha Shaji. Superb badminton played by both teams although Riyadi and Nimitha teamed up for the first time. Himesh and Srinidhi enjoyed court superiority with fierce smashes to claim success in 1st and 3rd sets although the pair lost in the 2nd set due to numerous unforeseen errors. Final scores are 21-15; 19-21 and 21-12.
