Muscat: The Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR) is reviewing its annual plan for the year 2023 and also the performance in the electricity and water sectors last year.

Dr. Mansour al Hinai, the chairman, of APSR, said, "More than 400,000 smart water meters have been installed by the end of 2022 and there has been a four percent increase in electricity production from renewable energy sources."

The percentage of Omanisation has reached 95 percent in direct electricity sector jobs.

Al Hinai said that the authority has made great strides in its plan to replace old meters with smart ones for remote reading, in line with digital transformation, raising the level of service and efficiency of electrical distribution, providing accurate readings of electricity bills, and dispensing with estimated readings.

APSR also approved the second phase of the project to connect the main electrical grid with all grids in the governorate and the direct connection project with an integrated Gulf network last year to raise the efficiency of the system and reduce the costs of the sectors subject to the regulation of the electricity sector.

More than 450,000 smart electricity meters were installed in 2022.
