Oman Aviation Academy opens headquarters at Sohar Airport

Suhar: Oman Aviation Academy on Thursday held a ceremony to mark the opening of its main headquarters at Sohar Airport in North Al Batinah Governorate. The site covers an area of 70,000 square metres that includes several facilities, including a flight simulators building, an aircraft maintenance hangar, a control tower, aircraft parking lots and an aircraft crossing corridor and other facilities.


The ceremony was held under the auspices of Eng Said Hamoud al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.


The Academy offers training to Omani nationals in the aviation sector to help them enter the labour market. It also attracts trainees from different countries of the world and provides high-level practice in the areas of civil and military aviation in the Middle East and Africa region.

Abdullah Murad al Balushi, CEO of Oman Aviation Academy, said that the aircraft maintenance hangar at the academy was designed to attract small and large aircrafts of interest to businessmen.


He added that the academy provides maintenance services for the academy's aircrafts and other aircrafts owned by other companies and individuals. The academy boasts 16 aircraft parking lots of different sizes and purposes, said Al Balushi, noting that this will contribute to the development and revitalization of the public and private aviation sector in Oman.


Oman Aviation Academy is the first accredited institution for civil aviation training in Oman. It offers a set of training programmes, including “Air Transport Pilot Licence”, “Military Aviation Training” and “Personal Pilot Licence”.

The number of the Academy’s members, since the launch of its training programmes, stood at 100. The first batch is scheduled to graduate in March 2023.


The academy has a fleet of 13 training aircraft and 3 training simulators equipped with the latest flight training devices and equipment to provide top quality standards in the field of civil and military aviation training.
