MUSCAT: The Central Blood Bank in Bausher has issued an urgent appeal for individuals with blood groups A negative and B negative to donate blood on Wednesday.
The bank has experienced a significant drop in the stock level of these blood types and is in need of more donations to maintain a safe supply of blood units.
Donors can register through the Blood Bank application by clicking on the "Register as a donor" button.
The director of Blood Bank Services praised the community's increasing awareness of the importance of blood donation and credited media organisations for spreading the humanitarian message.
Donors must log into the eHealth portal and register as a donor to participate.
The bank has been encouraging the community to continue donating blood as health services continue to expand in the country. There is a daily need for more than 15 platelet donors, as platelets can only be kept alive for five days and many cancer patients require daily platelet transfusions for seven days.
Platelets are small blood cells that help the body form clots to stop bleeding. They are crucial in repairing damage to blood vessels. The Central Blood Bank emphasised that there is a great need for negative blood types and encouraged those with such blood types to not delay their donation.
