Muscat: The sexual abuse cases against children are taken very seriously by the Public Prosecution and they are not dropped even if the victims or their families wanted to do so.

"Such incidents affect the social fabric of our society and offer a bad reflection of it," the Assistant Public Prosecutor said on Tuesday.'

The Ministry of Social Development (MoSD) said that as many as 179 cases of child abuse were handled by the child protection committees across the sultanate in the second quarter of 2020.

The Ministry of Social Development (MoSD) offers a hotline service that is operational 24×7.

It’s a free line and ensures full confidentiality of the complaint and the caller. Depending upon the complaint, it is forwarded to the relevant authorities.

The Department of Family Protection was established by the MoSD for the overall welfare of children.
