SALALAH: The second edition of the Empty Quarter Festival, organized by the Directorate-General of Heritage and Tourism in Dhofar, continued for the sixth day on Monday. The festival will run until February 3.
The festival comes as part of efforts made by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism to develop the tourism sector in Dhofar Governorate, promote the governorate as a sustained all-year-round tourism destination, highlight the most prominent winter tourism potentials and attract investors to the tourism sector in Dhofar.
In comments to ONA, Haitham bin Ali Tabook, Head of the Marketing and Media Committee of the Empty Quarter Festival, said that every day the festival presents a number of heritage, tourism, entertaining and sports activities, sand challenge contests for four-wheel drive vehicles, sand bikes, GPS coordinates, marketing exhibitions and concerts.
The open Empty Quarter Shooting Competition this year will be divided into two contests for individuals and teams by using traditional Saktoun rifle. The competition will be held on February 1-3 in Halouf and Masaheela areas, he said.
Services, varied events and public facilities are all available at the main venue which has been expanded and rehabilitated this year and car parks were built, the official said expressing his hope that the next version will see a significant transformation after the completion of all public services and infrastructure in the region.
