Oman posts increase in water and electricity production

MUSCAT: The total electricity production in the Sultanate of Oman until the end of November 2022 increased by 1.6 per cent, reaching 39,819 gigawatts per hour, compared to 38,483 gigawatts per hour, during the same period in 2021, according to the data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI)


The Dhofar Governorate recorded an increase in total electricity production by 9.0 per cent, to reach 3,934 gigawatts per hour until the end of November 2022, compared to the same period in 2021 with 25, 456 gigawatts per hour.


The net electricity production of the Sultanate of Oman until the end of November 2022, which includes purchases by the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company and purchases by the Rural Areas Electricity Company, by region, amounted to 37,833 GWh, an increase of 2.0 per cent compared to the same period in 2021.


The largest amount of net electricity production came in the Governorate of Dhofar, amounting to 3,753 gigawatts per hour, with an increase of 9.5 per cent. The governorates of North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah and Al Dhahirah recorded an increase in net electricity production by 5.9 per cent, to reach 24,602 gigawatts per hour.


The statistics issued by NCSI indicated that the amount of water produced in the Sultanate of Oman increased by 5.1 per cent to reach 469.65 million cubic metres until the end of November AD compared to the same period in 2021, during which the amount of water produced amounted to 446. 89 million cubic metres. The governorates of Dhofar and Muscat recorded an increase in water production by 9.2 per cent and 7.1 per cent, respectively, compared to the same period in 2021. — ONA
