YANQUL: The construction of Wadi Al Safri Dam in the Wilayat of Yanqul in Al Dhahirah Governorate is in full swing.

The dam is being built by civil and community efforts in the Wadi Al Safri area under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources.

Abdullah bin Said al Alawi, one of the project’s supervisors said the dam’s subbase is (130) metres long and its crest is 160 metres long. The height of the dam along with the shoulders is 7 metres. The total cost of the dam is approximately RO 103,000.

He added that by building the dam we aim to retain a large quantity of the water pouring down from the valley to feed the aquifer by allowing water to flow down into the dam’s basin. He noted that the dam would contribute to the stability of agriculture by increasing the level of ground water on both sides of the valley in Wadi Al Safri area at times of drought season. — ONA
