The northern parts of the Sultanate of Oman, including Muscat, have experienced heavy to light rains over the last two days, which has led to a considerable drop in night and day temperatures.

No untoward incidents, such as flowing wadis and vehicles' detention, were reported during this period of unstable weather that started on Thursday.

On Saturday, a number of wilayats of the governorates of Muscat, South Al Batinah, Al Dakhiliyah, Al Dhahirah, South and North Al Sharqiyah, and Al Hajar Mountains experienced light to medium rains.

Due to Friday's rains, activities of Muscat Nights were suspended and resumed on Saturday evening as the effects of the air trough gradually eased out.

The latest weather analysis indicates a receding of the effects of the air trough that affected most of the northern governorates during the past days, with a total withdrawal expected by Sunday morning.

The wilayats of Barka and Al Musannah, Al Seeb, Bausher, Al Amerat, Muttrah and Qurayat, Ibri, and Dhank received light to medium rains on Saturday.

Jabal Shams, which recorded sub-zero temperatures for almost a week, saw visitors flocking to the area despite the muddy roads and the long walk required to reach the peak.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources, the Wilayat of Mahdha received the maximum amount of rainfall (124 mm), Shinas (105 mm), and Liwa (103 mm).

An official at the Directorate General of Meteorology said that weather conditions will stabilise by Sunday and the temperatures will continue to be on the lower side in mountainous and open areas.
