Muscat: Oman Meterology has said that there are chances of heavy rains, including thundershowers, in areas around the Eastern Hajar Mountains and parts of the governorates of Muscat, South Al Batinah, Al Dakhiliyah, North and South Al Sharqiyah.

On Friday, the main organizing committee activities announced the temporary suspension of the Muscat Nights, except for indoor activities at Oman Automobile Association (OAA). No updates have been issued for Saturday as the committee said activities will resume on Saturday if the weather condition improves.

An upper air trough will continue to affect the Sultanate of Oman until Sunday morning with chances of clouds advection and isolated rain with occasional thundershowers and hail over the governorates of Musandam, North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahira, Al Wusta, Al Dalchiliya, and Muscat.

The influence is expected to gradually extend to the governorates of North Al Shargiya, South Al Shargiya, and Dhofar. The highest amounts of rainfall are expected over the northern governorates.

Expected Impacts:

Accumulating isolated rainfall ranging from 10 to 70 mm may cause wadies flow.

Chances for snow and frost over mountains tops.

. Fresh downdraft winds with speeds of 15 to 40 kt (28 - 71 km/h).

The sea state will be moderate to rough along the coastal areas of the Sea of Oman with maximum wave height ranging between 2 — 3 meters.

Noticeable decrease in temperature over most of the governorates, especially over the mountain tops.
