Oman's national motor sports commentator Habib al Zawawi passed away on Thursday. The 54-year-old served the Sultanate of Oman’s sports for many years starting as a football player in Ahli Club in 1980s. He also worked in the Oman Cycling Association (OCA) as a administration member and later as sports commentator for automobile races in the Oman Automobile Association (OAA).

The domestic sports family was in deep shock following the untimely death of Habib who was not feeling well on Wednesday and then hospitalised for two days before passing away.

Habib had contributed a lot in different versions of Tour of Oman as part of his official services in Muscat Municipality. After his retirement, he went on to continue his top efforts in major sports events in Muscat by thrilling the audience with his professional commentary.

He converted his experience in the cycling sports to OCA as he had joined them in 2020 as an administrative member in the association and helped them in different domestic cycling races around the Sultanate of Oman. Al Zawawi was very famous later in OAA after anchoring and commentating for many thrilling motor sports events.

All the motor sports fans were awaiting Habib's energetic commentary in the national races.

The Sports veteran was very fluent in French language and that put him as a translator in different top sporting events to translate from French to Arabic and English and vice versa.

The last presence of Al Zawawi in the media was during his attendance on last Monday in the recognition function of the working teams in the 31st World IFJ Congress by Oman Journalists Association (OJA). He was feted as one of the member in the working committees who supported the success of the congress.

The sports media fraternity and sports officials in Oman mourned the sudden demise of the national sports commentator.
