Oman National Engineering and Investment Company (ONEIC), a local company listed on the Muscat Stock Exchange (MSX), says it plans to launch an ‘electronic wallet’ service during 2023. It follows confirmation of a license ‘in-principle’ from the Central Bank of Oman to operate as a Payment Service Provider (PSP).

The company said in a filing to the Capital Market Authority that it had received an ‘in-principle’ PSP license following an approval from the Central Bank’s Board of Governors.

“ONEIC efforts to obtain this license come in line with its strategy aiming at establishing its own electronic wallet and to cope with the latest technologies in the billing sector. ONEIC is hopeful that it shall launch its electronic wallet during 2023,” the CEO said, noting that it seeks to position the e-wallet as the “main pillar of its future vision”.
