MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman is marking Oman Environment Day, which is celebrated on January 8 every year, today.

Oman Environment Day comes as affirmation to the continuity of efforts being made to conserve the environment. Celebrating Oman Environment Day embodies the Sultanate of Oman’s efforts in conserving the environment with partnership between the public sector, private sector and civil society organisations.

In comments to ONA, Dr Abdullah bin Ali al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority, said that the Sultanate of Oman has made many environmental achievements thanks to the programmes and initiatives it has adopted owing to the fact that it depends on continued planning and development with methodologies that enhance and upgrade environmental work and ensure its sustainability.

In addition, the Environment Authority worked on other projects that included environmental protection, nature conservation and air quality, reuse and recycling, clean energy, carbon management projects, reducing the risks of climate change and global warming leading to zero carbon neutrality by the year 2050 according to the national plan recently approved by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, he said, adding that governance, legislations, digital transformation, improving research and innovation and enhancing environmental culture directly contributed to enhancing the Sultanate of Oman’s international position. Besides, the Sultanate of Oman managed to improve its environmental performance index.

The chairman of the Environment Authority said we have great ambitions that can be realised only through partnership between the government, the private sector and the civil society. The Authority gave much attention to improving the sectors of the environment performance index in line with Oman Vision 2040.
