The Chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI, Faisal al Rawas, met with Davis Kallukaran, Founder Director of the Indo-Gulf Middle-East Chamber of Commerce (INMECC) and the Oman Chapter Secretary, Chander Khanna, in the presence of OCCI board member Abdul Latheef at the chamber’s headquarters on Monday.
During the meeting, INMECC representatives discussed the synergistic benefits of both chambers working together for the development of trade and services between the Sultanate of Oman and India. Al Rawas emphasised on skill-set development of the Omani youth by inviting INMECC to facilitate the setting up of universities of higher education in Oman.
“As announced by the chairman of INMECC, Sharafudeen, and endorsed by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Government of India, V Muralidharan in last week’s meeting held in Cochin, INMECC is taking forward the project of ‘Sick Industrial Units Revival’. This is also being initiated in Oman. The units have become sick because of weaknesses in application of technology, mismanagement of funds, lack of availability of raw materials and lack of marketing capabilities or access to markets etc. If we take the thousands of units that are sick, we can see that the strength of many units in certain areas above mentioned could be serious weaknesses in certain other units. INMECC in association with OCCI can bridge this gap by mentoring and hand holding the entrepreneurs to bring about synergy which is very much required,” said Kallukaran.
INMECC is establishing Chapters across India and abroad. Chapters already operate in Oman, UAE, Saudi and Kuwait, as well as the Indian states of Maharashtra and Kerala. The Oman Chapter is headed by Suresh Virmani, former CEO of Bahwan Engineering, supported by Mohiyuddin Mohammed Ali as Vice Chairman and Chander Khanna as secretary. Other members on the Board are Aftab Patel, Warith al Kharusi, and Ahmed Rayees
The meeting was concluded with the note to speed up the signing of the MOU between the chambers and meet again to work out the formalities of pursuing the objectives jointly.
