Muscat: For a better society free of chronic diseases, the Ministry of Health (MoH) has invited people aged 35 years old and above to undergo medical screenings for non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

According to the ministry, people with this age category are requested to approach the nearest primary health care institutions to conduct an early diagnosis of NCDs, starting from January 1, 2023.

To avoid future duplications, the programme calls on the targeted category to have medical checkups for silent killers, including high blood pressure (hypertension), obesity, diabetes, kidney failure and high cholesterol.

The examination programme carried out by the ministry requires taking some measurements like, height, weight, BP, in addition to some laboratory tests, including blood sugar level, urine test and creatinine blood test.

A post-screening plan will be made according to the results of the tests. If the results are positive, the person has to re-test after three years.

Meanwhile, screening tests are health checks that are done on persons who seem healthy to try to find unnoticed problems before you have any signs or symptoms of the disease. These tests are done as a preventive measure to detect a potential health problem early before severe disease and complications occur.
