Minerals Development Oman (MDO) has completed the first phase of the airborne geophysical survey on Masirah Island, which it is conducting for the exploration of metallic minerals in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Minerals (MoEM).

Over a period of 11 weeks, the survey was conducted on island, one of the company’s concessions, covering an area of 500 quare kilometres with a total flight line of 2,240 quare kilometres. A total of 12,000 square kilometres is targeted by the second phase of the project in the northern governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, namely North and South Al Batinah, Al Dhahirah, Al Buraimi, and Al Dakhiliyah.

As part of this geophysical survey, the company aims to collect high-resolution geological data about the ophiolite layer within its concession area, as well as explore potential mineral deposits. These surveys are conducted using low-flying aircraft to locate mineral resources approximately 200 to 300 metres below the surface of the ground. The survey is scheduled to be completed within the next year.

It is worth mentioning that MDO is undertaking one of the largest geophysical airborne surveys to discover mineral resources in the Sultanate of Oman, which will contribute to enhancing the economic value of Omani mineral resources and contributing to the Sultanate of Oman’s economic growth.
