Oman end 2022 Fifa world ranking in 75th spot

Asian teams register thrilling jumps up in December ranking

The Oman national football team remained at the 75th place with 1,321.24 points in the Fifa men’s world ranking which was released on Thursday for December month of this year. World Champions Argentina moved to the second position with 1,838.38 points after they were crowned as Fifa World Cup 2022 Qatar champions while Brazil remained on top of the ranking despite their exit in the World Cup from quarterfinal against Croatia.


Japan topped the Asian continent level as they were placed in the 20th spot with 1,593.08 points while Iran dropped to 24th place with 1,551.73 points. The Samurai Blue showed top performance in Qatar World Cup as they had managed to defeat Germany and Spain 2-1 respectively to top Group E. In the round of last-16, Japan suffered a loss on penalties against third-place finishers Croatia.


Islamic Republic of Iran dropped to 24th position. Iran registered only one victory as they beat Wales 2-0 while they suffered two losses against England and USA.


Korea Republic moved up three places to the 25th position. Korean team managed to beat Portugal 2-1 and ended their match against Uruguay in a goalless draw while they suffered a 3-2 loss against Ghana.


Australia jumped 11 spots to 27th with 1,533.97 points following their solid performance in the World Cup. The Socceroos had managed to register strong bounce back after their shock loss against World Cup runners-up France 4-1 in the opening match to register two consecutive triumphs against Tunisia and Denmark to advance to the Round of 16 before Argentina ended their campaign 2-1 in this round.


The fifth Asian representative were Saudi Arabia who finished in the 49th place with 1,438.81 points. Saudis were the only team which edged eventual champions Argentina 2-1 in their Group C opener. In the following matches, Saudi players went down against Poland and Mexico to end their campaign from group stage.


In the major changes of December ranking were third placed Croatia and fourth placed Morocco as both teams made spectacular jumps in the ranking. The Croatians are in seventh position with 1,727.62 points while the Atlas Lions are the year’s highest climbers as they ended in 11th position with 1,672.35 points.
