The University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS), Nizwa branch, and the Department of Heritage and Tourism in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, signed a memorandum of cooperation at the headquarters of UTAS, Nizwa branch.


The memorandum was signed by Dr Mohammed bin Juma al Kharousi, dean of the university branch in Nizwa, and Ali bin Saif al Shukaili, Assistant Director of the Department of Heritage and Tourism in the governorate.


The agreement includes exchanging experiences, training and supporting student activities and projects. It aims to build capabilities, strengthen cooperation between the two institutions, exchange training, practical, scientific and research experiences, and encourage and support research and student talents.


The collaboration between the two sides provides various statistics and data related to tourism programmes and plans. The agreement also deals with cooperation in multiple initiatives, tourism promotion, and organisation of seminars and conferences.


The memorandum stipulates organising trips and joint student activities to tourist and heritage sites in the governorate.


There will also be cooperation in organising local and international festivals and celebrations.


The Department of Heritage and Tourism will also look into training students and supporting field training for tourism students at the university.


The memorandum also provides cooperation in research projects and community services related to tourism.


Dr Mohammed bin Juma al Kharousi, dean of the university branch in Nizwa, said: “The signing of memorandum comes within the framework of the efforts made by the university branch in Nizwa as a translation of the university’s strategic plan of strengthening partnership with the public and private sectors.”


He further added: “This agreement will also pay attention to two important aspects in the life of a university student. Harnessing the potential to achieve sustainable development to prepare a qualified Omani with skills and capabilities capable of creativity and competition locally, regionally and internationally.”


UTAS, Nizwa branch, has signed several memorandums of cooperation with various governmental and private institutions.
