Duqm Refinery project 96 per cent complete

The construction work at Duqm Refinery has reached advanced stages of completion and programmes have been launched to achieve operational readiness. The total completion rate of the project is 96 per cent as of the end of November. The Duqm Refinery project is one of the major projects being implemented in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD). it serves as the starting line for the plan to transform Duqm into one of the largest industrial and economic centres in the region.


The Duqm Refinery project is a joint venture between the OQ Group and Kuwait Petroleum International, located in the heart of the Special Economic Zone at Duqm.


The project includes three main packages. The first includes the main processing units of the refinery while the second package includes facilities and services. Meanwhile, the third package includes three sub-packages, which are storage and export facilities for liquid and bulk petroleum materials located in the port of Duqm, crude oil storage facilities in Ras Markaz and an 81-kilometre pipeline for transportation of crude oil from Ras Markaz to Duqm Refinery.


The Duqm Refinery includes 10 main processing units capable of producing diesel, aviation fuel, naphtha, liquefied petroleum gas, sulfur and petroleum coke which will help provide high-quality oil products to customers all over the world.


The crude refining position of the Sultanate of Oman will exceed 500,000 barrels per day of refined products when the Duqm refinery starts operations with a capacity of 230,000 barrels per day, which will include various types of Omani and Kuwaiti crude.


The value of contracts for the supply of goods and services awarded to local companies was $ 1.7 billion, of which $ 166 million were for contracts for manufactured goods in the Sultanate of Oman, in addition to awarding more than $398 million to small and medium enterprises, of which $36 million were to registered enterprises in Al Wusta Governorate.
