GFOW signs agreement on governance framework

The General Federation of Omani Workers (GFOW) of the Sultanate of Oman signed an agreement with the Oman Centre for Governance and Sustainability on Monday, December 12, 2022. It was signed by Nabhan bin Ahmed al Battashi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Federation, and Hamid bin Sultan al Busaidi, Executive Director of the Centre.


The agreement will enable the General Federation to provide better services to members in various trade unions as well as to private sector workers in line with the objectives of Vision 2040.


As part of the agreement, the Oman Center for Governance and Sustainability will draft a charter for the governance of the General Federation, in addition to monitoring governance practices, and examining them with the aim of analyzing procedural gaps, if any. The Centre will also conduct field visits to the headquarters of the General Federation, and hold meetings with members of the Board of Directors and Executive Management.


Nabhan bin Ahmed al Battashi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Federation of Omani Workers, said: “The trade union work system has gone through different stages, and we in the General Federation focus on improving the system, and moving it from individual effort to organized institutional effort by clarifying the roles required from all parties. The relevant interest in accordance with the principles of governance and sustainability, in order to ensure the ability of the institution and its continuity in performing its tasks, and achieving its objectives according to what the workers in the private sector hope for.”


Sayyid Hamid bin Sultan al Busaidi, Executive Director of the Oman Centre for Governance and Sustainability, added: “The governance guide aims to consolidate the principles of governance in the work environment of the union, and to enhance the principles of accountability and transparency integrity. The agreement includes the preparation of an effective and effective governance framework that contributes to the development of the services provided by the federation to its members of the trade union structures and workers in the private sector.”
