SINGAPORE: The first strategic dialogue between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Singapore was held at the headquarters of the Singaporean Interior Ministry on Tuesday.

The Omani side was headed by Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister, and Major General Idris bin Abdulrahman al Kindi, Secretary-General of the National Security Council of Oman. The Singaporean side was headed by K Shanmugam, Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law, and Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman, Second Minister for Foreign Affairs.

They affirmed the solid friendship between Oman and Singapore and their desire to strengthen relations between the two countries to serve their common interests.

As a reflection of the development in relations between the two countries, the two sides agreed to raise the level of diplomatic representation between them by upgrading the general consulates in both countries to resident embassies from January 1.

They also reviewed discussions held in the bilateral and security working groups, covering economic, investment and cultural cooperation, especially in renewable energy, transportation, food security and the logistics. They also discussed enhancing cooperation in maritime security.

At the end of the meeting, Oman and Singapore signed two memoranda of understanding, the first in information technology and the second in fish farming and aquaculture.
