The Embassy of the Republic of Uganda in Saudi Arabia will organise consular services from November 27 to December 1 in Muscat. Services related to passports, visas, attestation etc, would be done for citizens and residents during the period.

Speaking to the Observer, Ivan Kakama (pictured), Head of Consular and Labour Affairs at the Embassy of the Republic of Uganda in Riyadh and Permanent Mission to the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, said the date to convert the old, machine-readable passports to e-passports had been extended, and all Ugandan citizens were encouraged to replace their old passports with the new international electronic passports.

“The government of the Republic of Uganda extended the deadline for using the old machine-readable passports to April 4, 2023, and all citizens living away from Uganda should get their passports converted into electronic documents without which travelling will be difficult,” he said, adding that this measure is in adherence to ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation) regulations on digital passports.

In line with the above directive, the Ministry of International Affairs has issued guidelines for processing the applications for e-passports for Ugandans in the diaspora.

Accordingly, the Embassy of the Republic of Uganda will undertake a consular visit from Sunday, November 27, to Thursday, December 1, from 11 am to 10 pm at the Royal Tulip, Ghubra, to ensure that all Ugandans living and working in the Sultanate of Oman are supported to attain the e-passport and all other consular services that will be offered.

“Additionally, the mission will offer all other consular services during the visit, and all Ugandan citizens and residents who look forward to the diplomatic services can make use of this opportunity,” adds Esther Babirye (pictured), Coordinator of Ugandan Embassy services in Oman. They include attestation of academic documents, official documents, marriage certificates and business-related documents from Uganda and the Sultanate of Oman.

The visiting mission representatives will also be visiting the prisons and hospitals to offer support to the Ugandans in distress. Emergency travel documents to Ugandans in need whose passports are lost or damaged and letters of No-Objection for repatriation of deceased Ugandans after securing the necessary documents indicating the cause of death from the authorities will also be issued.

“We also call upon all Ugandans in the Sultanate of Oman to engage themselves to share the government policies available to them for national development and to be law-abiding citizens,” Esther added.
