57,360 Omani babies born in 10 months

MUSCAT: A total number of 62,241 babies including 57,360 Omani babies were born in the Sultanate of Oman during the last 10 months as of the end of last October, according to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).


NCSI statistics indicate that 6,364 newborns were registered in October compared to 6,065 in September, 6,867 in August. A total of 82,224 babies were born by the end of 2021.


The statistics showed that a total of 8,136 deaths were registered in the first 10 months of this year compared to 12,649 deaths reported last year. There were 6,765 deaths among the Omani population and 3,801 among residents.


Last month, 717 deaths were registered among the Omani population compared to 575 deaths in September and 673 deaths in August.


The total population in Oman reached 4,890,110 against 4,527,446 by the end of December 2021.


According to the population clock at National Centre for Statistics and Information, the percentage of Omanis fell to 58.47 per cent to reach 2,859,217 on November 14.


At the end of 2021, the number of Omanis stood at 2,804,117, representing 62 per cent of the total population, against 1,723,329 expatriates representing 38 per cent, a decrease of 1.25 per cent.


The number of expatriates reached 2,030,893, forming the remaining 41.63 per cent.


At the same time, the population of Oman grew from less than half a million in 1950 to more than four million in 2015 and is expected to reach seven million by 2055.
