MUSCAT: Indian Social Club, Oman – Deccani Wing organised its fifth edition of cricket tournament, Deccan Premier League (DPL) recently.
The semifinals and final matches were played at Oman Cricket Academy Stadium, at Al Amerat on November 11.
Twelve teams participated over three days for qualifying league stage and knockout games.
In the first semifinal, Deccan Stars beat Challengers and Deccan Musketeers defeated Deccan XI to enter the final from the second semifinal.
The final was keenly fought where Deccan Stars after winning the toss scored 63 runs for 4 wickets in 8 overs. Rajender 19, Altaf 14, Hemath 1/9 and Rashed Malik 1/17 were the standout performers.
In reply, Deccan Musketeers made 64 runs for 3 wickets in 7.3 overs. Rashed Malik 43 in 23 balls and Rajender took 2 wickets giving away 22 runs. Man of the Match was awarded to Rashed Malik.
The tournament’s other award winners were Star of the Tournament - Sabir Hussain (165 runs & 8 wickets), Best Batsman - Junaid Iqbal (211 Runs) and Best Bowler – Ayub Malik (9 Wickets).
Deccani Wing office bearers Dr Wasifuddin, Convenor, Ismail Baig, Co-Convener, Mansoor Sabri, Treasurer and Zaheer Al Deen, Head of Organising Committee, welcomed Chief Guest Paul Sheridan, Vice-Chairman of Oman Cricket and Guest of Honours Syed Anwar Ahsan, Chief Selector – Oman Cricket, Aftab Patel, CEO – Oman Investment Co., special guest Paul Bedford, Member ECB and Suhail Khan, Joint Secretary – Indian Social Club.
Chief guest Paul Sheridan handed over the champions trophy to winning captain Munavar.
Guest of Honour Paul Bedford gave the runners-up trophy to Yousuf, captain of Deccan Stars. Anwar Ahsan and
Aftab Patel distributed individual and other awards.
The organising committee headed by Mohammed Zaheer Al Deen and members Naimath, Fasiuddin, Mirza Zulkhader, Zaki and Ali Al Deen received a lot of accolades for holding a hugely successful event.

Deccani Wing and its members celebrated marking 52nd National Day and wished citizens and residents of Oman a very happy National Day.
