Muscat: Gumball 3000, one of the largest celebrity motor rallies in the world, will enter Muscat from the UAE on Sunday on its way to Wilayat of Jabal Al Akhdhar.

The drivers will travel to Mirbat, Duqm, Salalah and Muscat before returning to the UAE. The Gumball 3000 supercar rally is coming to the Middle East for the first time.

Founded in 1999 by British entrepreneur Maximillion Cooper, Gumball 3000 is a car rally which has taken thousands of supercars and entrants on an epic journey all across the globe, touching down on every continent to create one of the greatest bucket list experiences possible behind a wheel.

Previous contestants in the luxury motoring procession have been Lewis Hamilton, David Hasselhoff and Snoop Dogg.

During the march, drivers will get to know about the most important cultural, heritage and tourism sites in the Sultanate of Oman.

Hisham bin Juma al Sinani, Director-General of Sports Welfare and Development at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, said, "Gumball 3000 will help Oman to boost sports tourism. The participants will pass through important tourism landmarks."

Haitham bin Mohammed al Ghassani, Director-General of Tourism Promotion at the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, said: "The Sultanate of Oman is rich in attractions across various governorates, including natural landmarks such as the coasts extending from Dhofar in the south to Musandam in the north. The area is dotted with ancient villages, caves, hot springs and wadis. We are pleased that the organisers of Gumball 3000 chose a route that offers a variety of prominent tourist attractions such as Jabal Al Akhdhar, Salalah and Muscat.”

Al Ghassani said Gumball 3000 is part of a series of international sporting events and other tourism festivals taking place in the various governorates to boost Oman's profile in the global tourism map.
