MUSCAT: The Shotokan Karate Centre, in cooperation with the Oman Karate Committee, is completing preparations for the eighth Shotokan Karate Centre International Competition, which will be hosted by Al Amal Sports Club in Ghala, Muscat Governorate, on December 2 and 3.

Chairman of Shotokan Karate Centre Sensi Nawaz Mokeri said: "This tournament comes within the framework of the centre's annual plans, where it is expected that large numbers of players and clubs, academies and centres will participate. The tournament is preceded by a course for coaches organised by the Shotokan Karate Centre in the lecture hall of Al Amal Sports Club on December 1. The course will review the developments and updates that have occurred in the WKF rules for karate in kata and kumite and focus on some points that the coaches should follow with players in the competitions."

Sensei Munther Bilal, a member of the Shotokan Center, said: "The number of competitors registered in this version of the tournament so far is increasing daily. Several karatekas are registering in the registration link for the tournament. These include karatekas from national clubs, academies and private centres spread across the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman and from clubs from several other countries. The disciplines are divided according to weights and age groups in the individual kata and kumite competitions, as well as the team kata and team kumite competitions."

The Shotokan Karate Centre is holding the eighth international edition of the tournament after it succeeded in organising the tournament in previous years, with appreciation from all the authorities concerned with karate in the Sultanate of Oman, including clubs, administrators, referees, coaches and players.
