Forum stresses importance of economic empowerment of women

Under the auspices of HH Dr Mona bint Fahd al Said, Assistant Vice-Chancellor for International Cooperation at Sultan Qaboos University, the annual Women's Forum opened at Sheraton Oman Hotel on the theme, ‘Women's Economic Empowerment’.


The forum witnessed the participation of a number of prominent women from different professional backgrounds. Presentations focused on efforts to empower Omani women and enhance their capabilities in Omani society.


The first edition of a book, titled "The Elite", was launched on the sidelines of the forum's activities. The book includes a review of some successful Omani women models, their experiences and achievements.


Komal Beg from CUC Ulster University in Qatar presented a specialised workshop entitled "Women in Leadership".


Representatives from a number of government organizations, including Asyad Group and Oman LNG, were present. So were delegates from the banking and private sectors.


Later in the evening, the winners of the annual Women's Awards for Excellence were presented at a ceremony held under the auspices of Lujaina bint Mohin Haidar Darwish, Member of the State Council.


The awards applaud the accomplishments of Omani women in various fields. Currently in its 11th year, the awards highlight the successes of women and showcase their inspirational and creative capabilities.


The award categories include women leaders in the corporate sector, fashion design, arts, and educational services, entrepreneurship and innovation, health services, sports, social responsibility, small and medium enterprises sector, human resources, tourism, and entertainment. Two women will also be conferred with the Woman of the Year Award and the Promising Woman of the Year Award.
