Shura council begins 4th annual session

MUSCAT: Majlis Ash’shura held its first meeting of the fourth annual session of the ninth term, on Sunday.


The council discussed several topics including the draft cooperation agreement in the field of ports and maritime transport between the Sultanate of Oman and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the draft cooperation agreement in air transport between the government of the Sultanate of Oman and the government of Canada and the draft agreement on avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of tax evasion for income taxes between the Sultanate of Oman and the Arab Republic of Egypt.


Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali, Chairman of Majlis Ash’shura, said: “Based on the Royal orders issued by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and pursuant to the provisions of the Basic Statute of the State, today I am inaugurating the fourth session of the ninth term of Majlis Ash’shura in conjunction with the 52nd National Day of the Renaissance.”

The chairman of Majlis Ash’shura expressed his thanks and appreciation to the members of Majlis Ash’shura and the Secretariat-General for the efforts they exerted to make the sessions successful.


During the meeting, the council discussed the proposed amendments of Article (1) of the Law on Combating Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing.


The council also reviewed the Economic and Financial Committee’s report on the reality of the mining sector, the draft small and medium enterprises law, the draft law on income tax on high-income earners, the draft law on public debt, the draft law on school education and the draft higher education law.


The council was briefed about the state general budget for the fiscal year 2023 forwarded by the government. — ONA
