Gallery Sarah hosts the art exhibition “Cities of Pastel” by the two artists Rahma al Hajri and Samira al Yaqoubi.

The exhibition is the outcome of the artists’ imagination, their perception of the environment around them and the lives of people in cities, which were expressed in an abstract and surreal style. The two artists participate with more than forty artworks, representing the features of cities through their use of different materials.

The exhibition was opened on November 1 under the auspices of Her Highness Sayyida Alia bint Thuwaini al Said, at Gallery Sarah.

The artist, Dr Samira al Yaqoubi, has a Master’s degree in jewellery design, and a PhD in philosophy in curricula and teaching. Her artworks highlight the Omani environment, which is rich with ancient heritage and panoramic nature, as she takes the details of this wonderful culture in a surreal style. Currently, she focuses on the multi-material method that gives life to the artwork. The artist Samira participated in several exhibitions from 1998 until 2014; including a joint exhibition entitled (Once upon a time) at the Opera Galleria and a solo exhibition (Glory of Muscat) at the Omani Society for Fine Arts 2012. She also participated in several international exhibitions in the United Kingdom, Russia, Jordan and Qatar. The artist released her first book entitled “Silver” in 2012.

Artist and art teacher, Rahma al Hajri, is one of the artists who practiced art and explored it for a long time. Her works dealt with several topics inspired by the ancient history of her country, Oman, its heritage, mosques and domes, in addition to issues related to women. The artist worked on several experiments with materials such as paper and cloth, and her works depended on acrylic colours and inks. She has participated in several art exhibitions, including; the “Colour Imprints” exhibition at the Cultural Club in 2011, the “Spray of Art” exhibition at the Omani Society for Fine Arts in Dhofar Governorate in 2012, and the exhibition “Once Upon a Time” at Opera Galleria in 2013. The artist Rahma has a Bachelor’s degree in art education from Sultan Qaboos University and a Master’s degree in curricula and general teaching methods from Sohar University.
