Agreement signed to promote afforestation in Muscat

Muscat: On the occasion of the Omani Tree Day, a tripartite agreement was signed on Monday morning between Muscat Municipality, the Environment Authority (EA), and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning.


The agreement aims to regulate the issue of afforestation in residential neighborhoods and encourage the spreading of the green patch according by taking into account all environmental and organizational aspects.


The agreement follows the directives of the National Urban Strategy that seeks to achieve the goals of Vision 2040 and the national initiative to plant ten million trees.

The Muscat Municipality will work to allow citizens of the owners of buildings and homes in residential neighborhoods to plant trees in front of the houses under its supervision of the municipality. It will identify general sites within the Muscat Governorate, and specify the criteria for the requirements of afforestation in front of homes, in addition to the role of the municipality in educating citizens about the types of plants that can be planted in front of homes.
