Al Jabal Al Akhdhar: The Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah celebrated the inauguration of the 'The educated village' project in the Al Hail area in the Wilayat of Al Jabal Al Akhdhar, which aims to eradicate illiteracy.

The Department of Special Education and Continuing Learning in the General Directorate of Education in the governorate hosted the event at Al Gulail School. The opening was held under the auspices of Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed al Busaidy, Wali of Al Jabal Al Akhdhar, in the presence of Saif bin Mubarak al Julandani, Director-General of the General Directorate of Education in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate.

The ceremony began with a speech presented by Faisal bin Said al Hinai, Director of the Special Education Department. "The Directorate is making tremendous efforts to reduce illiteracy in the governorate. This project is an embodiment of the efforts aimed at eliminating illiteracy of all kinds, especially inability to read. Literacy will help people to read and write, engage in community life, and contribute to building and reconstructing the nation."

"Oman's Vision 2040 that the human capital is the greatest wealth of society. The Directorate is working to spread skills of reading and writing. Education is a right for all. Based on this principle, the Directorate, represented by the Special Education and Continuing Learning Department, has drawn up plans and programmes in this regard. Undoubtedly, it has achieved good results as revealed by statistical indicators."

Areef bin Mohammad al Abri, from the Department of Special Education, gave a presentation on the steps and stages of the project. Al Hail area was chosen after they saw the statistics from the population census and the statistics of the Directorate of Education. It appeared that a large number of illiterates reside in Al Jabal Al Akhdhar areas, especially the areas surrounding the Al Hail area.

The Educated Village project is one of the innovative programmes to reduce total illiteracy. It aims to eradicate alphabetic and numerical illiteracy for men and women in the village and to raise their level of social, economic, and environmental awareness. The project's success depends on the involvement of the local community and volunteers.
