Merit Trainings, an Omani company, signed last week an agreement to merge with Baker Tilly ME, the Middle Eastern branch of the global consulting firm. Through this agreement, Merit Trainings now holds a 50 per cent share of the Baker Tilly Academy in the Middle East, Asia and Africa. In addition to becoming the managing partner of the Academy and its strategic consulting at a regional level, Merit Trainings is also the managing partner of Baker Tilly in the Sultanate of Oman.

The merger agreement was signed under the auspices of Halima bint Rashed al Zariah, Chairperson of the Authority for SME Development.

Abbas al Humaid, CEO of Merit Trainings, said: “The importance of this merger lies in its capacity to expand the horizons of a small and local Omani company to the outlook of a global company, where I can offer my services to clients around the world. This will allow us to expand our customer base, not only in Oman, but at a global level, and to bring more prominence to Omani companies abroad. Through actions like this, Oman will become a global hub for administrative consulting and training.”

He added: “I started my professional journey in 2003 – around 20 years ago – and I founded Merit Trainings during the COVID pandemic in 2021. I did so in order to send a message to Omani entrepreneurs and business leaders about the importance of expanding their operations globally and benefiting from the knowledge economy, along with the accelerating growth of technological wealth, and the importance of not remaining limited to local business.”

Merit Trainings is specialized in training and consulting and it recently published a book titled “Strategic Management Processes”, which was mapped and recognized by the Chartered Management Institute in the UK. This book contains success stories that can inspire Omani business leaders. It also contains examples that can be emulated and it provides a qualitative jump for the Omani business sector.

Baker Tilly is one of the ten largest consulting companies in the world. It specializes in auditing, accounting, taxes, consulting and training. It has more than 40,000 employees in 1,000 offices in 160 countries, with a combined global revenue of $4.3 billion in 2021. (Picture credit: Huda al Bahriya)
