The first visit of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to the Kingdom of Bahrain is of great significance to the outstanding bilateral relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Kingdom of Bahrain.

These relations, dating back to millennia from the eras of the civilisation of Delmun Bahrain and Magan in Oman, have always been characterised by solid bonds between their leaderships and people.

According to Noreen al Thawadi (pictured), Head of Correspondents at the Bahrain News Agency (BNA), the Royal meeting that brought together His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa al Khalifa and His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has asserted the importance of further strengthening bilateral ties. This was demonstrated by the agreements signed during the meeting, that covered sectors of strategic importance to both countries.

“We see today a mutual will and determination to continue developing the levels of cooperation and coordination between Oman and Bahrain. The official statements and commentary on the visit of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to Bahrain are all optimistic about how the two countries will continue to work together. On following all the material covering the visit, one also cannot miss the tribute given to the late Sultan of Oman, His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, who had been very close to the Kingdom of Bahrain during his 50 years of leadership of the Sultanate of Oman. I personally still recall an image from His Majesty’s last visit to Bahrain in 2010, where he was seated next to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa al Khalifa, and the eldest grandson of His Majesty, His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad al Khalifa, was seen with them stepping in for a quick exchange with the late Sultan,” she remembered.

She feels that His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s reign in Oman launched a new chapter with a fresh outlook in this country, which bears rich history in the region. The initiatives of His Majesty the Sultan over the last nearly three years bring great promise of modernisation and sustainable achievements to further invest in this country’s big potential. As a key player in the GCC, it is inevitable that Oman will seek to also join forces with countries in this bloc, Bahrain one of them, to serve their mutual interests.

“The people-to-people links between Bahrain and Oman are a very important dimension in our relations. Bahrainis value the history of Oman and admire its vibrant culture, wonderful people, beautiful nature and delicious cuisine. We happen to be the only two Gulf states who are known for the Halwa, and endearingly compete on who makes it better.”

“As a woman, I look with great respect to Omani women, who represent their culture beautifully while proving themselves and their mettle. Omani women are projected to be very ambitious and outstanding in their balancing act of managing work and profession simultaneously, outside the country.”

“As a Bahraini, I look forward to seeing our countries enjoy even higher levels of cooperation and wish the Sultanate of Oman and its people further prosperity and development,” Noreen said.
